Internal Investigations

Office of Professional Standards

On August 25th, 2010, at about 11 p.m., Spokane Valley Police Officer Brian Hirzel was seated in his patrol car in the parking lot of a closed business. He was completing paperwork while watching the neighborhood where a "prowl check" had been requested. Hirzel was approached by an armed man, and that confrontation led to a fatal officer-involved shooting. Attached is the Spokane County Sheriff's Office internal review of that incident. Exhibits and some other portions of the investigation are not posted here but may be viewed at the sheriff's office.
